Privacy Policy

Overview

TryScanning ("we", "us") is a barcode scanning app that shows a health score for food, cosmetics, and everyday products. This policy explains what information the app handles and how it is used. We do not sell your data, we do not show third-party ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Information we collect

• Account information (optional). If you choose to sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple user identifier, and — only if you share them — your name and email address. Signing in is optional; the app works without an account.
• Scan history and goals. The barcodes you scan, the resulting product analyses, your favorites, and the health goals you pick are stored on your device. If you are signed in, they are also backed up to our secure cloud database so you can restore them on a new device.
• Purchase information. Subscriptions are processed by Apple. Our subscription provider (RevenueCat) receives an anonymous app user ID and purchase receipt data to validate your subscription. We never see your payment details.

What we do NOT collect

• No location data.
• No contacts, photos, or messages.
• No advertising identifiers, and no cross-app tracking.
• Camera frames are processed on your device only to read barcodes — images are never uploaded or stored.

How we use your information

• To analyze scanned products and show health scores, breakdowns, and healthier alternatives.
• To back up and restore your scan history, rank, and goals across devices (signed-in users only).
• To manage your subscription and free trial.

Product data sources

Product information comes from the community databases Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, and Open Products Facts, combined with AI analysis. When you scan a product, the barcode and product data (never your identity) are sent to these services to retrieve information.

Data retention & deletion

You can delete individual scans at any time. You can also delete your entire account and all cloud data from the app: Profile → Account → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent. Data stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app.

Third-party services

• Apple — sign in with Apple and payment processing.
• RevenueCat — subscription management and receipt validation.
• Supabase — encrypted cloud storage of your backed-up scans and goals.
• Open Food Facts / Open Beauty Facts / Open Products Facts — product databases.

Security

Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain. Cloud data is protected with row-level security so only your account can access your records.

Children

TryScanning is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Health scores shown in the app are informational only and are not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified health professional for medical questions.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated in the app.
