Overview
TryScanning ("we", "us") is a photo scanning app that shows a health score for food, cosmetics, and everyday products. This policy explains what information the app handles and how it is used. We do not sell your data, we do not show third-party ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Information we collect
- Account information (optional). If you choose to sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple user identifier, and — only if you share them — your name and email address. Signing in is optional; the app works without an account.
- Product photos. When you scan, the photo you take of the product is sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) solely to identify the product and produce its health score. Photos are not used for advertising and are not published. A copy of the photo is kept on your device so the scan can be re-opened later.
- Scan history and goals. The products you scan, the resulting analyses, your favorites, and the health goals you pick are stored on your device. If you are signed in, they are also backed up to our secure cloud database so you can restore them on a new device.
- Purchase information. Subscriptions are processed by Apple. Our subscription provider (RevenueCat) receives an anonymous app user ID and purchase receipt data to validate your subscription. We never see your payment details.
- Onboarding answers & feedback (optional). The answers you pick during the welcome questionnaire, and any bug reports or feature requests you send from Profile → Report a Bug, are stored in our secure database under an anonymous device identifier so we can improve the app. Including your email with feedback is optional and only used to reply to you.
What we do NOT collect
- No location data.
- No contacts, photos, or messages.
- No advertising identifiers, and no cross-app tracking.
- No access to your photo library — only the photo you actively capture in the scanner is used.
- The camera preview is never recorded; only the single photo you capture is analyzed.
How we use your information
- To identify photographed products and show health scores, summaries, and healthier swaps.
- To back up and restore your scan history, rank, and goals across devices (signed-in users only).
- To manage your subscription.
Product data sources
Product information is produced by AI analysis of the photo you capture. The photo (never your identity) is sent to OpenAI for processing; OpenAI does not use it to train its models.
Data retention & deletion
You can delete individual scans at any time. You can also delete your entire account and all cloud data from the app: Profile → Account → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent. Data stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app.
Third-party services
- Apple — sign in with Apple and payment processing.
- RevenueCat — subscription management and receipt validation.
- Supabase — encrypted cloud storage of your backed-up scans and goals.
- OpenAI — AI analysis of the product photo you capture.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain. Cloud data is protected with row-level security so only your account can access your records.
Children
TryScanning is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated in the app.
